Whitehaven Beach - Whitsunday Island

For more than seven kilometres along Whitsunday Island, Whitehaven Beach mesmerises visitors from near and far. Crystal clear, aquamarine, warm water gently caresses miles of pristine, very fine, blindingly white sand. The sand is said to be roughly ninety-nine percent silica.

This sand is so pure that the greatest telescope and optical lenses in the world are made from it. While sitting on the beach, run your fingers through the sand and you will literally polish the jewelry that you are wearing on your hands.

Believed to be the most photographed beach in all of Australia, Whitehaven Beach is breathtakingly beautiful. Visitors are offered water sports, cruises, whale watching, scuba diving and snorkeling, among multiple other water activities that enthrall beach lovers of all ages.

Boat Tours to Whitehaven Beach

Almost every boat tour of the surrounding areas will make a stop at Whitehaven Beach. You can also get there by ferries, sailing charters, luxury yacht cruises, as well as seaplanes and helicopters leave Airlie Beach on a regular basis.

Those who are a little more daring might want to try a jet boat trip, ocean rafting or even sea-kayaking in order to reach the island. While you are enjoying the island, you may want to make your way to Hill Inlet.

Hill Inlet

Located at the northern end of the beach, sits this spectacular cove where the tides dance with the ever-changing waters and sand to create an opulent symphony of colours. Imagine running your toes through the dazzling white sand as you walk on the edge of the turquoise warm waters gently splashing over your feet!

Bring a picnic basket and bottle of wine or champagne with you. Enjoy an unforgettable day, swimming, basking in the sun and picnicking on your own private spot. You may even choose to camp overnight on the beach.

Whitehaven Beach defies nature. The origin of the ultra powdery fine granules of quartz that make up the sand are unknown but highly speculated about by local geologists. Regardless of what natural phenomenon has created this majestic beach, Whitehaven is definitely the epitome of nature’s wondrous mysteries.

If you have found yourself visiting the Whitsunday Islands, your trip will not be complete until you have experienced Whitehaven Beach.
