Whitsunday Islands Events

The Whitsunday Islands are known as the boat pleasure capital of Australia and home to the most stunningly beautiful waters, amazing beaches and colourful coral reefs to be found, probably anywhere in the world. As such, a huge number of their annual events are centered around the water – life on it, under it and around it. Take a look and see when you want to visit and come play.

Brunch and Live Jazz Session

Held from March through December on Airlie Beach, it is the perfect family outing. Enjoy the serenity of the Coral Sea with Live Jazz Sessions; gourmet delicacies while the children take a dip in the pool at the Coral Sea Resort.

Hawaiian Fire Show

Celebrate the cultures of the South Pacific with fire and hula dancers. Each Saturday evening from March through December visitors will be hypnotised by the beats of the hula drums, the mesmerising fire dancers and a seafood buffet at the Coral Sea Resort. This is open to Resort guests and the public as well. April

JUNE AND JULY

Outrigger Cup

The Outrigger Cup happens every year during late June or early July (check your calendar for 2009). Although this race week centers mostly around Catseye Beach, the events compete over a number or days in various events including sprints, marathons, and the Hamilton Cup.

AUGUST

Hamilton Island Race Week

Australia’s largest off-shore yachting regatta and the hottest ticket on the social calendar. This infamous race brings out hundreds of yachts, from 30’ rented boats to billion dollar super yachts designed for racing. Various classes of racing ranging from cruising division to IRC divisions for yachting professionals are here to entice racers of every skill level.

Meridien Marinas Airlie Beach Race Week

This internationally renowned sailing regatta is held in the spectacularly incredible waters of the tropical Whitsundays. Catering for every type of yacht from the Grand Prix racer to the non-spinnaker cruiser, this long running race is fun both on and off the water!

SEPTEMBER

Airlie Beach Triathlon Festival

Traditionally held in September, the event has triathletes of all ages and abilities arriving on Airlie Beach to claim their share of the prizes.

NOVEMBER

Whitsunday Eight Kilogram Light Tackle Fame Fish Tournament

Sanctioned by Queensland Game Fishing Association, this is a wonderful team and individual event with trophies, multiple prizes and bragging rights up for grabs. It is a tag and release tournament of Billfish with a limit of other game fish species allowed to be weighed in per team. This is a fisherman’s delight.

Airlie Beach November Events

November brings a variety of events to Airlie Beach – there is:

The Come Camp With BIG4

a national event to encourage families to rediscover the fun of a night spent in the great outdoors.

Fantasea Cracker Night

Cracker night is Fantasea Adventure Cruising’s annual event held for the local community and families.

Whitsunday Reef Festival

This festival celebrates the biggest festival in the region. Stretching 10 days this festival will have more than 14 main events, over 12 different venues, fantastic food, fabulous wine, live entertainment, fashion and tons of fun for the kids. Numerous activities occur throughout the week so be sure to check your calendar so you do not miss a single event of interest to you!

Body and Soul Festival at Club Med Lindeman Island

A week-long event combines relaxing tropical escape with motivational classes and lifestyle workshops to help everyone shape up from the inside out.
