Explore the Great Barrier Reef As You Experience Paradise in the
Whitsunday Islands

Located a little more that 900km north of Brisbane, between Mackay
and Townsville, the Whitsunday Islands is a national park.
This majestic series of seventy-four uniquely shaped and sized
islands are surrounded by hundreds of kilometers of pristine clear
waters, incredible white beaches and colourful coral.
This magnificent collection of continental islands is the heart of
the Great Barrier Reef. The sands are so pure and fine that NASA
actually uses it to make lenses for their telescopes. Leave the sand on
the beach because those who may be tempted to take a little back home
with them can actually be fined up to $5,000.00!
Although there are a total of seventy-four islands, only eight of
them are actually inhabited. Nearly all of the islands are national
parks and protected to maintain the economic importance of this vital
area. They still offer major attractions such as diving, access to the
coral reefs, snorkeling and on some, camping. Bordered by the Great
Barrier Reef and the calm, soothing waters of the Coral Sea, there is no
shortage of activities and accommodations to suite every taste.
Whitsunday is the largest of the islands. Whitehaven Beach is here,
facing east toward the open sea. The sand on the beaches is so pure and
white that you definitely need to wear sunglasses when you visit.
There is a golf course being built on Dent Island, which his mostly
uninhabited for the moment. This island will soon boast the golf course
as well as clubhouse and villas.
Whitsunday Resort Islands
Resort islands such as Lindeman, South Molle, Long, Daydream and
Hyman offer a number of resort amenities and activities for the
visitors. Ranging from small resorts to the most lavish one can imagine.
These islands are for those seeking the specialist of holiday memories.
Hook Island
Hook
Island is truly the shape of a hook! There are a variety of
accommodations, allowing visitors of every budget to be able to stay on
the island. The coral is so abundant here – it actually washes up on the
shore.
Although you can go to many sites to see the magnificence of the
coral – watch the tides! You do not want to get stranded at low tide in
a position where you will need to walk across the razor sharp coral to
get back to the beach. Many boat tours are available to ensure your
coral visits are not painful ones. Take your camera and sunscreen.
Visiting the Whitsunday Islands is an absolute must on your vacation
schedule.
